Our artefacts.

This is the rose of sharon tree. It is being planted at the frontyard of tae-yul's house but unfortunately, it was being ordered to be chopped off by the japanese soldier.
This is the yellow rubber ball given by the emperor to Tae-yul's class as the japanese force had won in the rubber -producing countries in the Tropics.

This kanji badge was given to Sun-hee as she has attain the best grade at Japanese.

Tuesday, April 12

Sketches of the American army releasing pamphlets down, right infront of Tae-yul's school.(DRAFT)

Sun-hee and tae-yul was stunned by the pamphlets being dropped down from the sky.
Tae-yul is pointing at the pamphlets.

An example of pamphlets that dropped down from the sky.

The reason why we printed and crushed the leaflet is because at those times, ink are available as uncle used ink to print newspaper. We thought that the americans will write one leaflet and duplicate the rest to give the Koreans. Most likely will they write every single leaflet as it might be tiring. We crushed it because Tae-Yul and Sun-Hee hid the leaflet in their shirts for the whole day. It will be crumpled.

Sketches of tae-yul's bicycle being taken away by the japanese soldier. (DRAFT)

This is a sketch (draft) of Tae-yul's bike being taken away by the Japanese soldiers (right).

The one pointing at the other men is tae-yul. The men whom is being pointed at is abuji.

New family photo

From Upper left corner: Omoni - Mei Han , Sun-Hee - Minnette , Abuji - Cheng Yu
Lower left corner: Uncle - Yu Sheng , Tae-Yul - Minnette

Reasons on why we decided to use this as our family photo.

It is because this photo has exactly 5 person and we just need to photoshot our faces inside. As in the storyline of " when my name was keoko" there is tae-yul, sun-hee, omoni, abuji and uncle, exactly 5 person in the family tree. The backgound of the photo also suits the the technology of taking photo in the the past. It has a old and yellowish background (sepia) which camera of the past usually has.

Tuesday, April 5

Picture of the "Old paper" that we are using.

This is an example of the old paper we are using. We intend to copy the letters written by tae-yul to home when he was a kamikaze into this "old paper". The font written will be cursive/itallic. Follow by, we would burn the paper at the corners so as to make it look more convincing .

* Pictures would be posted after we have completed writing and burning of paper.

Sun-hee 's diary entries

The time when the Japanese demanded everyone to surrender all their metals:

The Dragon is alone with his pretty ball
There is no one to play with,
Hidden away in his cave,
He waits for light.

The time where the Koreans were forced to chop off all their Sharon trees:

Do not mourn, little tree,
Your brothers and sisters have been strucked down,
But you live still.
Be strong!
For you alone are in the beginning,
of a new forest.

Uncertainly: A flower,
Dying for want of rain,
The nearest cloud a world away.

The rest are burnt by the Japanese.

Tuesday, March 29

Poem about a plea from sister to her brother when he left for war.

You've been there for me
Through it all
You're always there to catch me
When I start to take a fall.

If I do something bad
You'll take the blame
And for all of that
I am feeling shame.

I never did tell you
All the things I felt
Like how I really love you
And in my heart you'll dwell.

You protected me from the world
That left the bruises on your face
All the tears and scrapes
I wish I could erase.

When my life fell apart
You patched things up
You took care of my heart
When times got rough.

With just the warmth of your touch
You saved me from the world
You loved me so much
But my love for you was not said.

If you knew what I knew
Maybe you'd stay home
If you heard what I didn't say
Maybe I wouldn't be alone.

If you could see the part of me I hid away
Maybe you could see
How much I want you to stay
Here at home with me.

You may think I don't care
Because I never show it
But I'll always be here
And I hope you know it.

Wish we could go back
We can start over again
I don't want to be alone
I need brother I need a friend.

If you think of me
While you're protecting the country
Think of how much you mean to me
And how proud I am of you, Donny.

Remember I will be here
When you're at the battle field
I'll be here for you
As you're love shield.

Do not leave this world
While you're over seas
Do not leave this little girl
Do not leave me.

If you do have to go
Before I say goodbye
Remember I love you so
As you begin to fly.

Remember I will be here
Through and through
Remember I will always care
Just as much as you do.

You've done so much for me
And yet I not for you
I hope you will forgive me
For all the things I didn't do.
